The volunteers at CVaLC work with landowners to permanently protect their land with conservation easements. Easements restrict the number of divisions and amount of development on a property, but allow for farming, forestry, recreation, and other compatible uses. With conservation easements, landowners can protect their property while at the same time maintain their ownership – living on their land, selling it as they wish, or passing it to their heirs. An easement may provide a landowner generous tax benefits.
If you are interested in exploring the possibility of donating a conservation easement on your land, the first step is to contact us. Every piece of land and every landowner’s needs are unique. This initial conversation allows us to evaluate whether or not your property is a good match for an easement. This does not obligate you to pursue an easement and there is no charge for our services.
Whether farmland or forest, it’s important to you, to future generations. The Central Virginia Land Conservancy (CVaLC) can help you ensure that your land will be available for farming, timbering, wildlife habitat, and scenic enjoyment for years to come.
