Jeff Smith

​Jeff Smith is the retired Executive Director of Rush Homes in Lynchburg. Jeff spent 24 years in development of affordable housing prior to his retirement. His professional, educational, and volunteer background exemplifies his concern for humanitarian, justice, and environmental causes. Jeff earned his Bachelor’s degree in physics from Emory & Henry College. After spending 11 total years in engineering and management for two different industries, he earned his MEd in Agency Counseling from Lynchburg College, later finding a home in the non-profit sector with Central Virginia Community Services, Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity, and the 500 Year Forest Foundation. In the 1990’s, Jeff was active in the Lynchburg Sierra Club and in the 2000’s, worked with the then Greater Environmental Network to found the Central Virginia Land Conservancy. He is from rural southwest Virginia where he grew up on a small farm. Jeff serves on the Board of Directors of the 500 Year Forest Foundation, the advisory board of the Central Virginia Land Conservancy, and has completed basic training as a Central Virginia Master Naturalist. Jeff loves to travel with his wife Mary, cycle, backpack, and occasionally throw a make-believe fly to catch a real trout.
