With a population of 15,577 residents, Appomattox County contains some 76,000 acres of farmland across 412 farms.
Bordered on the northwest by the James River, Appomattox County is also home to the headwaters of the river that shares its name. The Appomattox River flows east for 157 miles before uniting with the James below Petersburg. The county is also home to Appomattox Court House National Historical Park and Appomattox-Buckingham State Forest, Virginia’s largest state forest. The Central Virginia/Blue Ridge Land Conservancy recorded its first easement in Appomattox County in 2019. |
